In 1901, Henry Ford designed and built the racecar called “Sweepstakes.” On October 10th of that year, he drove Sweepstakes against Alexander Winton, a famous racer and builder. Ford Performance is looking for an experienced, talented, and highly motivated HV Battery Cell Engineer to join our Global Motorsports department, located in Allen Park, Michigan. The individual will be responsible for leading the direction of battery cell selection, development, and validation for Ford’s Electrified Motorsports vehicles.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science)
  • 5+ years of direct experience analyzing/evaluating battery cells
  • Working knowledge of battery cell chemistry, design, and manufacturing
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong team player, ability to work with multiple suppliers, and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with high responsibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s / Ph. D in related field (Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science)
  • Published research related to battery cell chemistry
  • Experience working directly will cell suppliers to develop and validate new designs
  • High Voltage Safety Training
  • Knowledge of battery test equipment (cyclers, thermal chambers, chillers, etc.)
  • Experience with engineering software (MATLAB, 1D Simulation, CFD, Cell Modeling)
  • Possess a competitive spirit, and interest in professional motorsports
  • International and Domestic travel may be required

  • Lead battery cell technology assessments to determine best fit for upcoming motorsport applications
  • Identify and select battery cell suppliers for chemistry research projects, striving for continuous performance improvement and pushing the boundaries of cell electrochemistry
  • Coordinate regular communications with cell suppliers. Support cell supplier validation (develop and coordinate test plans, review test data). Drive cell design direction
  • Develop new cell models for battery pack and cell attribute analysis
  • Create battery test methods and interpret data
  • Interface with key racing partners to offer guidance for battery cell usage and strategy in electrified series (WRC, Formula 1, etc.)
