Simulation Software Infrastructure Engineer – NASCAR Cup Series
Job Posting: Simulation Software Infrastructure Engineer – NASCAR Cup Series
Location: Welcome, NC Team: Kaulig Racing – NASCAR Cup Series Position Type: Full-Time Travel Required: Minimal (occasional track or testing support as needed)
About Kaulig Racing
Kaulig Racing is a championship-caliber organization competing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series and (starting 2026) the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Founded by owner Matt Kaulig and led by President Chris Rice, we are committed to growth, innovation, and giving our people the tools and support to compete at the highest level. We value hard work, collaboration, and a winning culture in a family-oriented environment.
Role Overview
The Simulation Software Infrastructure Engineer will partner closely with our Simulation Development team to build and maintain the underlying platforms, servers, networking, and hosting environments that power our custom simulation tools and workflows. This role focuses on removing technical friction so our engineers can focus on designing high-performance models and race-winning solutions rather than wrestling with infrastructure issues.
You will handle everything from server setup and networking to internal tool hosting, website/dashboard deployment, data pipelines, and automation—ensuring reliable, scalable, and secure systems that accelerate our simulation and race engineering efforts.
This is an ideal role for a versatile software/systems engineer who enjoys enabling high-impact technical teams in a fast-paced motorsports environment. Formula SAE, FSAE Electric, or other hands-on racing project experience is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain servers, virtual environments, and infrastructure to host simulation tools, models, and data pipelines.
- Manage networking, security, and connectivity solutions across shop, remote, and track environments.
- Set up and maintain internal websites, dashboards, and web-based tools for simulation data access and collaboration.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines, automation scripts, and DevOps practices to streamline tool development and deployment.
- Support data storage, backup, versioning, and sharing systems for large simulation datasets (telemetry, CFD, wind tunnel, etc.).
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure bottlenecks that slow down simulation engineers.
- Collaborate with the simulation team to understand their workflows and proactively build/enhance supporting platforms.
- Ensure systems are reliable, scalable, and compliant with security best practices.
- Document infrastructure setups, processes, and troubleshooting guides for the team.
- Stay current with technologies that can accelerate our simulation capabilities (cloud options, containerization, etc.).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 2+ years of experience in software infrastructure, DevOps, systems administration, or IT engineering (motorsports or high-performance technical environments preferred).
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Server setup and management (Linux/Windows, virtualization, cloud).
- Networking and connectivity solutions.
- Web hosting, internal websites, and dashboard deployment.
- Scripting/automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
- CI/CD, containers (Docker), and orchestration tools.
- Broad understanding of software development workflows and the ability to quickly learn domain-specific tools (simulation software, data pipelines, etc.).
- Problem-solving mindset with a passion for removing obstacles for technical teams.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours during peak race/development periods and occasional travel. Must live in or be willing to relocate to the greater Charlotte / Winston-Salem, NC area.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
- Direct impact on our simulation capabilities and overall race team performance.
- Opportunity to work with cutting-edge motorsports technology in a growing organization.
- Mentorship and collaboration with talented engineers in a family-oriented environment.
