Campbell Marketing & Communications is a dynamic and fast-paced agency specializing in public relations, communications, social media, marketing, and event management. We are currently seeking an Account Director, Motorsports & Performance Communications, to join our dedicated team.

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President, Motorsports, this role is responsible for all agency deliverables, external and internal, for global motorsport and performance communications activity with Fortune 500 automotive client.

The role oversees and supervises a Campbell team of five/six, ensuring efficient and transparent integration of agency communications/storytelling capabilities to achieve client objectives.

Client-related Responsibilities:

  • Partner strategically with client, the Director, Global Performance Motorsports Communications on strategy, agency deliverables, and agency execution to ensure effective and impactful storytelling across broad range of global racing series, stakeholder geographic regions, and relevant client products.
  • Provide strategic direction, communications strategies, and guidance for the Campbell communications team in support of client objectives; evolve communications approach from event-driven to storytelling-led.
  • Oversee all written and visual communications materials delivered by Campbell for client; provide counsel and guidance and develop training plan to develop and nurture team.
  • Develop close and meaningful relationships with key media outlets from across the racing spectrum with a global outlook.
  • Partner with the client staff on the development and implementation of our annual plan developments; ensure Campbell team members are bought in to and delivering to the agreed plans.
  • Create strategies and communications that support all racing series equally.
  • Work together with the client lead to protect the client reputation through appropriate crisis communications and response.
  • Demonstrate ingenuity and creativity with storytelling for motorsports and performance to reach new audiences and key stakeholders; look for new ways to deliver our story across all platforms including social.
  • Identify new ways to engage and immerse client employees in motorsports and performance.
  • Use insights to influence storytelling and plans; identify aligned metrics to measure impact and influence plan development.
  • Build a strong and creative agency team through a long-term people strategy that identifies key talent and brings new talent to fill gaps.

  • Build a strong and creative agency team through a long-term people strategy that identifies key talent and brings new talent to fill gaps.
  • Responsible for the oversight of agency team including managing team member performance and development and building teamwork within the team and among agency organizational competencies and business units.
  • Complies with, and ensures team member adherence to, agency policies and procedures, Mission/Vision, and Guiding Principles.

The most qualified candidates will:

  • Exude passion for automotive performance and belief in the role that motorsports play in the development of people, processes, and products of a global OEM.
  • Possess experience and knowledge of global motorsports, including the media and competitive landscape.
  • Understand the importance of high-quality content and materials; this includes a laser-focus on accuracy, a dedication to the written word, understanding how to tell a story and a commitment to excellence in supporting assets.
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking and judgment; look at issues through a strategic lens.
  • Form quick and meaningful relationships with all direct and indirect client leaders/stakeholders to ensure that all are always working in lock step.
    • Build trusted and close relationships with key motorsport media across the key motorsport series of sports cars, off road racing, NASCAR, and others.
  • Think globally and understand the importance of each element of client strategy in motorsports.
  • Have a strong understanding of social media and be conversant in the tools required to maximise the medium and to measure and use the results to improve our output.
  • Have superior problem-solving, decision-making and project management skills.
  • Motivate and galvanise the team to deliver the best work and results possible. Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field
  • 10+ years of professional experience in communications, marketing, corporate brand, brand marketing and/or product communications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with digital storytelling tools
  • Project management skills
  • Experience leading and developing a team
  • Candidate should be knowledgeable with the motorsports media landscape and have extensive prior experience working with media.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate travel required. Requires weekend/evening hours. Requires significant level of physical mobility while attending work events.

Additional Information:

  • Proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination is required for this position
  • Salary - negotiable based on experience
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record required
  • The company is currently working on a hybrid basis; however, some in-office days (Dearborn, MI) will be required at times.
  • Physical activities may include standing and/or walking on a racetrack or equivalent surface for extended periods of time.
