Prep Shop Assembly Mechanic

Position Summary

Joe Gibbs Racing is seeking a highly motivated Prep Shop Assembly Mechanic to support the build and preparation of race cars in our prep shop. This position plays a critical role in ensuring vehicles and components are assembled to the highest standards of quality, precision, and reliability. This role is ideal for mechanics who take pride in craftsmanship, attention to detail, and working as part of a high-performance team focused on building race-winning equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and prepare race cars and components according to team build specifications
  • Install and service suspension, drivetrain, steering, braking, and chassis systems
  • Inspect and verify all assemblies meet team quality and performance standards
  • Ensure components are race-ready prior to release from the prep shop
  • Maintain accurate parts life tracking and build documentation
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment
  • Support overall race car preparation as needed within the prep shop

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 3 years of professional automotive mechanical experience
  • Motorsports or high-performance racing experience strongly preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow build specifications and procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong work ethic and team-oriented mindset

Equipment Experience

  • Air tools and professional hand tools
  • Pit carts and shop equipment
  • Hoists and lifting equipment
  • Basic fabrication shop tools

Tools

Candidates are expected to provide their own professional-grade mechanic’s hand tools appropriate for race car assembly. JGR will supply a toolbox for those tools.

What Separates Great Candidates

  • Previous NASCAR, ARCA, or professional motorsports experience
  • Experience assembling high-performance race cars or competition vehicles
  • Strong organizational skills and pride in craftsmanship
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-expectation, team-driven shop environment

Work Environment

  • Professional motorsports shop environment
  • Moderate shop noise from machining and fabrication equipment
  • Flexible schedule required to support race team deadlines

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds
  • Regular use of hand tools and mechanical equipment
