The test technician will work at Penske Technology Group's (PTG) test lab and should possess prior experience with the operation of computer-controlled test equipment. The technician will work with engineering personnel to conduct vehicle dynamic, aerodynamic, and various research and development testing. This position requires the ability to understand procedural manuals and engineering/CAD drawings as well as using precision metrology and measurement equipment to execute work orders. Knowledge of strain gauge instrumentation, computerized data acquisition systems, and mechanical/electrical/electronic systems is essential. A background in automotive R&D is preferred. This position does require a flexible schedule, overtime is needed to accomplish on-time delivery, sometimes with short notice.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct automotive testing in the test lab.
  • Instrumentation calibration and installation.
  • Design, develop, and build test fixtures.
  • Write test procedures.
  • Document test reports.
  • Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Electrical and instrumentation wiring.
  • Assemble mechanical components.

Qualifications:

  • Engineering Technology or Engineering degree preferred.
  • At least 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Basic knowledge and experience of machining and machine tools.
  • Extensive computer experience.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Perform electromechanical equipment maintenance (DC motors, drives, bearings, PLCs)
  • Ability to use computer-controlled test equipment in an effective and safe manner.
  • Ability to interface with Engineering personnel.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and prepare reports and documentation.
  • Ability to solder and crimp electrical connectors to neatly route and secure instrumentation wiring, cabling, looms, sensors, etc.
  • Ability to configure and secure wireless and computer networks.
  • Must be able to wear a harness and work at heights up to 20 feet above ground.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds.
