Hendrick Motorsports is currently seeking a Racetrack IT Technician.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the IT Operations Manager, the IT Track Technician provides technical support and assistance related to computer systems, hardware, software, intercoms and radios. This role serves as the first point of contact for users seeking technical assistance via phone, email, or ticketing systems, and requires strong technical knowledge and effective communication skills to diagnose issues and explain solutions clearly. The IT Track Technician demonstrates excellent customer service when interacting with users and must be willing to travel regularly to support trackside operations, testing sessions, and events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Technical Support and Operations

  • Provide IT and RF technical support at both the racetrack and shop locations in accordance with company standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Install, configure, and maintain IT and RF equipment in haulers, pit boxes, garage areas, toolboxes, and qualifying carts

  • Set up and maintain competition network connectivity between track and shop operations

  • Respond to technical support requests via phone, email, ticketing systems, and in-person inquiries

  • Document, track, and monitor support tickets to ensure timely resolution

  • Provide technical support for a wide range of hardware and software issues by diagnosing, researching, and resolving problems

  • Provide real-time support for RF communication systems during races, exhibitions, and testing sessions.

Network & Systems Administration

  • Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems

  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues and outages, and implement improvements to optimize reliability, speed, and security.

  • Collaborate with networking and systems teams to optimize performance and implement best practices

  • Report network operational status by gathering, prioritizing, and communicating key information to stakeholders, while coordinating and executing remediation efforts.

RF Systems & Communications

  • Design, implement, and maintain RF communication systems for motorsports applications, including telemetry, intercom, and vehicle-to-pit communications

  • Optimize antenna systems for trackside and vehicular installations to minimize interference and maximize performance.

  • Collaborate with electronics and software teams to integrate RF systems into vehicle and operational platforms.

  • Conduct RF analysis, frequency coordination, and interference mitigation to ensure reliable communication in dynamic motorsports environments

  • Analyze and resolve issues related to RF interference, signal quality, and bandwidth limitations.

  • Develop and implement multi-frequency and dynamic frequency selection strategies to avoid interference and conflicts

  • Work with vendors to build and configure headsets, interface cables, and harnesses for Motorola handhelds, base stations, and GreenGo digital intercom systems

Inventory Management

  • Manage inventory of IT and RF equipment, including radios, headsets, network hardware, and supporting components

  • Track, organize, and maintain accurate inventory records across trackside and shop locations

  • Prepare, stage, and deploy equipment for races, testing sessions, and shop operations

  • Inspect, test, and maintain equipment to ensure functionality and readiness for use

  • Coordinate repairs, replacements, and vendor services for damaged or non-functional equipment

  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of critical components, including cables, connectors, antennas, and spare hardware

  • Support asset tracking, labeling, and lifecycle management of IT and RF equipment

  • Collaborate with internal teams to forecast equipment needs and ensure availability for upcoming events

  • Administer and maintain IP address space and device inventory within ITAM/IPAM systems, ensuring accurate allocation, tracking, and documentation

Testing & Validation

  • Perform lab and trackside testing of RF systems, antennas, and IT/network infrastructure to validate real-world performance

  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators, along with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools, to assess system performance

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot headsets, interfaces, cabling, radio/intercom systems, and IT hardware, including endpoints, switches, and wireless devices

  • Validate network connectivity, system integrations, and data flow between trackside and shop environments

  • Perform system imaging, updates, and patch validation on endpoints and servers to ensure stability and performance

Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex IT and RF-related issues in real-time environments

  • Solid understanding of RF principles, including propagation, modulation techniques, and antenna theory

  • Experience with real-time communication systems and troubleshooting in dynamic, high-pressure environments (example: live events, trackside operations)

  • Hands-on experience building, configuring, and maintaining hardware components, including headsets, interface cables, and communication systems

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated accountability, integrity, and reliability in all aspects of work

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to diverse audiences

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to make sound decisions and exercise independent judgment while following established procedures

  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships

  • Stay current on advancements in IT and RF technologies and their applications within motorsports

  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies to enhance network performance, security, and reliability

  • Recommend and implement system upgrades to improve performance, scalability, and operational efficiency

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to share best practices, align on standards, and establish consistent performance benchmarks

Education/Experience :

  • Required - associate or bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science or engineering:

  • Prefer at least 2 plus years of IT experience.

  • Must be willing to travel extensively.
