General Summary:
Reports to Crew Chief. Responsible for providing Crew Chief with all technical information for assigned race car, including but not limited to, simulation, geometry, tire information and performance, 7-Post data, wind tunnel data, etc. Provides track support for race day/race weekend.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, analyze and summarize technical data, simulation, geometry, tire information and performance, 7 post data, wind tunnel data, etc.
  • Creates written reports and summaries based on data analysis.
  • Writes procedures and test plans.
  • Performs research and development functions.
  • Provide support during the race including, keeping track of other teams tire pressure, calculating fuel mileage, etc.
  • Prepares for and participates in track testing, oversees testing process, data accumulation and performance analysis on completed tests.
  • Coordinates and consults with Crew Chiefs, Managers, and other members of the Car Team.
  • Assumes any responsibilities delegated by the Crew Chief or Car Chief.

Education and Work Experience:

BS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering required. Typically requires at least 2-3 year of experience in the automobile racing industry. Prior experience at the NASCAR Cup level preferred.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

Proficient computer skills. Understanding of aerodynamics and fluid analysis. Understanding of thermo dynamics. Knowledge of structural analysis. Understanding of vehicle dynamics. Able to understand, model, and create a part or device. Strong written and oral communication, teamwork, and people skills.

Equipment and Applications:

Computer with Microsoft suite of products and engineering software packages, wind tunnel, basic hand tools, fabrication tools.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity. Repeated bending and squatting. Able to work long hours and flexible work schedule. Potential for extensive travel and long work hours. Able to handle stressful situations. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes race cars, 7-Post equipment, welding operations, heavy machinery, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids.
