Machinist with 3D Printing Experience

Concord, NC, USA Full Time

We are seeking a skilled Machinist with hands-on experience operating and maintaining 3D printing equipment to support prototype and production manufacturing.

The ideal candidate will have experience with CNC machining, additive manufacturing processes, blueprint reading, precision measurement tools, and post-processing of printed components. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machines, manual machining equipment, and industrial 3D printers.
  • Set up, monitor, and troubleshoot additive manufacturing equipment including FDM, SLA, SLS, or metal 3D printing systems.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Perform post-processing tasks such as sanding, finishing, curing, machining, and assembly of printed parts.
  • Conduct quality inspections using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Prepare build platforms, load materials, and optimize print settings for production efficiency.
  • Maintain machines and perform routine preventive maintenance.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve manufacturing processes and prototype development.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
  • Document production data, machine settings, and maintenance records.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or machining degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience operating and maintaining industrial 3D printers and additive manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming and machining practices preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Mastercam, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing tolerances and quality control processes.
  • Ability to use precision measurement tools accurately.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with metal additive manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Experience with prototype development and low-volume production.
  • Forklift or shop safety certifications are a plus.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing/shop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and industrial materials.
  • PPE required as appropriate for machining and additive manufacturing operations.
