Design / Project Engineer

Kannapolis, NC, USA Full Time

As a Design / Project Engineer, you will help ensure the performance, reliability, and quality of our race cars. By developing components and systems from start to finish, you will drive continual improvement of our cars. You will design parts, develop solutions, and help define implementation. You will interact with multiple departments to solve problems and enhance the performance of our cars. This role will blend technical understanding and hands-on experience to solve problems. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and must have keen attention to detail. Must have the desire to be part of a team and thrive in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • CAE/CAD design of components
  • Ensure that proper best practices and documentation are maintained
  • Project management from concept to production
  • Prepare design criteria and project descriptions
  • Create component field service and product life management definitions
  • Establish quality control standards for prototype/production projects
  • Conduct testing activities on components – analyze testing data and determine design changes based on results. May need to design new test equipment.
  • Analyze part failures and understand root cause. Identify solutions and provide process changes and documentation to prevent future failures
  • FE analysis of components
  • Communicate with vendors regarding product requirements/issues.
  • Maintain proper documentation of parts in the PDM system.
  • Assist with operation of additive manufacturing machines.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of vehicle systems and various motorsports disciplines by interacting with all the talented people at HFT.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related degree required.
  • Motorsports experience preferred
  • CAD and FEA experience required. SolidWorks and/or AutoDesk preferred.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills preferred.
  • Must be thorough with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Solid hands-on skills and comfort with basic tools and light fabrication
  • Must work well under pressure with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to build internal relationships and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
