Position Summary

This position requires a highly motivated engineer possessing expertise in optimization of performance as it applies to car setup and race strategy. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of high-level motorsport engineering experience, centering around race engineering tasks with deep involvement in vehicle simulation. A high concern for quality, an ability to independently produce high-quality results, and skills to manage and process high volumes of complex data in a high-pressure environment is necessary.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform vehicle simulation work throughout event cycle life
    • Develop, refine, validate, and maintain simulation baselines
    • Perform pre-event setup parameter sensitivity simulation studies
    • Perform race meeting setup comparison evaluation and optimization studies
  • Perform tire data analysis to establish optimal performance window envelope
  • Perform aerodynamic analysis to establish optimal performance window envelope
  • Assist DIL program with accurate simulation models, simulation validation studies
  • Facilitate DIL tests to bridge the gap between the track and simulation focusing on setup development, and driver training
  • Travel to race events and support team with simulation work and data collection/analysis
  • Assist the Crew Chief with development and execution of race event and track test plans
  • Use engineering tools (simulation & other) to assist Crew Chief, Car Chief, and race team with the decision-making process at the race track
  • Attend selected track test events performing requisite simulation work and data analysis
  • Perform post-event investigations
  • Responsible for communicating complex, technical data to various levels of the organization
  • Collaborate with simulation development and software groups to guide simulation development direction

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 2 years' experience in professional motorsports, preferably in a race engineering role
  • Experience with full-vehicle simulation application and analysis
  • Experience in tire characterization and aerodynamics
  • Desire to work in a collaborative, demanding, and fast-paced team environment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; significant outward communication is required
  • High concern for quality and pride in individual work

  • Job location is in Huntersville, NC; full-time
  • Travel to races and tests is required
