RFK Racing's Steve Newmark on Racer Jobs

Jess Ballard:

"Racing America recently launched the new platform Racer Jobs, and we've seen listings for all of those different positions that make a win happen. And I love having people on the show that maybe don't necessarily hold the steering wheel, and ask them what a day in the life as team president looks like for you?"

Steve Newmark:

"So, it's a fair question. And I think sometimes people here want to know what the heck I do as well, but there's no day that is the same - and that's actually one of the reasons that I love being in racing so much and that this wasn't my background. I didn't grow up in it, and I came over in 2010 and have been really blessed to be here and work with the folks that we have at RFK.

"But for me, a day could be, for instance, today was working - we have a board meeting tomorrow, so that was more our financials. And then Brad and I may have a conversation about personnel. I have a meeting with NASCAR this afternoon about some of the things that are going on in ‘24. We're constantly talking to our partners, dealing with our partners, and so it really varies based on the day. And obviously we travel quite a bit with 38 race weekends. And so, I do like the variety, and we're really fortunate to have a lot of good folks here. So, a lot of times the hard work is being done by others, which is sometimes the way it works."

Alan Dietz:

"So, what's NASCAR doing?"

Steve Newmark:

“Yeah, there's a lot going on with NASCAR. I give them obviously - the sport has been on an upward trajectory, which I think we're all proud of, and that really has come a lot from the leadership, from Steve Phelps, Steve O'Donnell, Ben Kennedy. That said, we're still working through what the next TV deal looks like, what the next charter agreement looks like, and so a lot of dialogue there.

“I think teams are also continuing to push for the schedule innovation that we've seen. I think from our perspective, we've loved the fact that go to Chicago street race, you're going to St. Louis, you're trying new things all the time, and we want us to continue to do that while still maintaining a presence at kind of our anchor places, you know, Talladega’s Martinsville's and things like that. So, I think the future is bright, but there'll be a lot of work to do so we don't get complacent.”

Alan Dietz:

“I thought it was worth a try.”

Jess Ballard:

“Yeah, you tried.”

Alan Dietz:

“Yeah. Why not?”

Steve Newmark:

“Listen, we're in good standing right now. We're doing well. I don't want to get in any trouble, Alan.”

Alan Dietz:

“That makes two of us. I know exactly what you mean.”
