Rackley WAR

Engineering Intern | Fall 2026

Mooresville, NC, USA Full Time

Rackley W.A.R. — a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team with a late model driver development program — is seeking a motivated Engineering Intern to join our team for Fall 2026. This is a paid, hands-on internship for an engineering student who wants real-world experience inside a competitive motorsports organization.

The position will focus heavily on 3D CAD design, SolidWorks, 3D scanning and reverse engineering, prototyping, and 3D-printed components used throughout our racing operation. The internship is based at our race shop in Mooresville, NC, and hours are flexible around your class schedule.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Create and modify 3D CAD models using SolidWorks
  • Design components specifically for 3D printing and rapid prototyping
  • Develop detailed part and assembly drawings
  • Measure existing components and accurately recreate them in CAD
  • Use our ROMER arm and 3D scanner to capture, measure, and reverse-engineer components
  • Take projects from concept to design to prototype to installation
  • Revise designs based on fit, function, strength, weight, and team feedback
  • Assist with engineering and design solutions for race vehicles, equipment, tooling, and shop projects
  • Work directly with engineers, fabricators, mechanics, and race team personnel

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Current Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or related student
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SolidWorks and 3D CAD modeling
  • Understanding of assemblies, technical drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and fitment
  • Familiarity with 3D printing/additive manufacturing
  • Experience with a ROMER arm/portable CMM and 3D scanning — or a strong desire to learn. Scan-based design is where everything we do is headed
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
  • Comfortable using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated and willing to take a project from an idea to a finished solution

PORTFOLIO REQUIRED

Applicants must submit examples of previous design work along with their resume. Examples may include:

  • SolidWorks models and assemblies
  • 3D-printed parts or prototypes
  • Technical drawings
  • Mechanical design projects
  • Formula SAE or Baja SAE projects
  • Robotics or manufacturing projects
  • Machined or fabricated components
  • Personal automotive or motorsports projects

We aren't just looking for coursework or a GPA. We want to see what you can design, build, and solve.

BONUS EXPERIENCE

Formula SAE, Baja SAE, motorsports, machining, fabrication, CNC, composites, laser cutting, 3D scanning/metrology, or other hands-on manufacturing experience is a plus.

WHY RACKLEY W.A.R.?

This isn't an internship where you'll spend the semester watching someone else engineer. You'll have the opportunity to design it, build it, test it, and improve it - and potentially see something you designed put to work in a professional motorsports environment.

HOW TO APPLY

Interested candidates should submit a resume and portfolio/examples of previous CAD and engineering work to [email protected] to be considered.
