Key Responsibilities of Director of Motorsports Engineering
Strategic Engineering Leadership
Develop and execute the overall engineering strategy for motorsports programs, aligning with organizational goals and competitive objectives.
Team Management & Development
Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers (aerodynamics, chassis, powertrain, electronics, data acquisition, etc.), fostering a high-performance culture and promoting professional growth.
Research & Development
Spearhead cutting-edge research and development initiatives, exploring new technologies, materials, and methodologies to gain a competitive advantage. Oversee the entire R&D lifecycle from concept to implementation.
Vehicle Design & Optimization
Direct the design, analysis, and development of all vehicle components and systems, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Performance Analysis & Improvement

Budget & Resource Management

Requirements for the Director of Motorsports Engineering
Education
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. A Master's degree or Ph.D. is highly preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in high-level motorsports engineering roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or directorial capacity within a professional racing team or motorsports manufacturer.
Technical Expertise
• Deep understanding of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, powertrain systems, chassis design, suspension kinematics, and control systems.
• Proficiency with advanced engineering tools and software (e.g., CAD/CAE, CFD, FEA, MATLAB/Simulink, data acquisition systems like Pi Toolbox, ATLAS).
• Strong knowledge of materials science, manufacturing processes, and quality control in a motorsports context.
• Experience with hybrid and electric vehicle technologies in motorsports is a significant advantage.
