Finish Fabrication Technician

Kannapolis, NC, USA Full Time

General Summary: Reports to Body Fabrication Manager. Builds and installs race car parts and pieces. Completes the final fabrication phase and prepares race cars for assembly. Cleans and maintains fabrication shop and equipment.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Builds exterior body components for race cars – roof rails, side skirts, window panels & braces, shark fins, crush panels, etc.
  • Fabricates other various parts as needed.
  • Prepares chassis and corresponding parts for paint phase.
  • Manages inventory of several components/assemblies within the Finish Fabrication Department.
  • Works on special projects (911’s) as needed.
  • Cleans and maintains fabrication shop area and tools.
  • Assumes any responsibilities delegated by the Body Fabrication Manager.

Education and Work Experience:

High school education or equivalent required. Typically requires 3 to 5 years of welding and fabrication experience, with some experience in a race shop environment. Welding Certification preferred. Wind tunnel and track testing experience is a plus.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

Proven ability to fabricate race car bodies, parts, and pieces. Knowledgeable in the use of all sheet metal and fabrication equipment. Proven ability to weld in all horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions with MIG and TIG welders. Proven metal grinding and shaping skills. Basic knowledge of race car setup. Strong oral communication, teamwork, and people skills. Romer and/or Faro arm skillset is a plus.

Equipment and Applications:

Fabrication equipment, break, bead roller, shear, cutting tools, grinders, air tools, saw, basic hand tools, rivet guns, welding equipment, and safety equipment.

Work Environment Physical Demands:

Frequent bending, squatting, working on knees, standing on concrete for long periods, and getting up and down. Able to lift and carry up to 70 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination. Able to stay calm and focused in stressful situations while balancing tight deadlines. The work environment includes sparks, dust, noise, welding equipment, cutting tools, and power tools.
