The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Quality Inspection Technician to join our Internal team. As a Quality Inspection Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining our high standards of product quality. You will be the go-to person for troubleshooting quality issues, providing advanced technical expertise, and ensuring that customer requirements are consistently met. Your responsibilities will include complex inspections, quality assurance, and training junior staff.
This is a dynamic inspection environment where you will be required to multitask and effectively collaborate to ensure efficient workflow.
Specific Duties of the Role:
- Read and Understand Complex Drawings: Interpret medium to complex drawings, including a basic understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and apply this knowledge to CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) or Romer Arm programs
- Operate and Program CMM: Have a basic understanding of operating and programming the CMM for precise measurements
- Operate Romer Arm: Confidently operate the Romer Arm, providing feedback to appropriate personnel if rework is required
- Train Junior Staff: Train Quality Inspectors to reach the level of Quality Inspection Technician, ensuring they understand advanced inspection techniques and equipment use
- Manual Inspection: Perform advanced manual inspections using visual/manual measuring techniques
- Kitting Components: Gather measured components and create assembly kits based on the drawing bill of materials
- Log and Measure Components: Measure parts before and after anodizing using manual techniques, logging results in Excel
- Record Critical Measurements: Create balloon drawings and measurement tables using Bluebeam and Excel for critical dimensions and tolerances, and record measurements accordingly
- Communicate with Other Departments: Report any issues found during inspection and work with relevant departments to resolve them
- Create Certificates of Conformance: Use Word and Accentis to generate certificates of conformance
- Create Part Identification Stickers: Use Word, Accentis, and a data matrix generator to produce part identification stickers
- Work Orders: Print and manage work orders using Accentis
- Archive Documents: Scan and archive documents such as completed travel sheets, certificates of conformance, and material certificates in appropriate folders
- Compile Quality Documents: Gather and compile customer-required quality documents in the specified format
- Probe/Scan Assemblies: Use the Romer Arm and PolyWorks to probe/scan completed assemblies and save dimensional reports in customer folders
- Manual Inspection of Assemblies: Inspect completed assemblies using manual measuring techniques, borescope, and visual inspection for weld defects
- Assist Senior Quality Inspectors: Support senior quality inspectors as needed
- Maintain a Tidy Work Environment: Undertake a daily 5S routine to keep the workspace organized and efficient
Key Competencies:
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proficiency in reading and understanding complex drawings, including GD&T
- Basic understanding of operating and programming the CMM
- Confident in operating the Romer Arm and providing necessary feedback
- Ability to train junior staff to higher competency levels
- Experience with precision measuring instruments
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to read work orders and drawings
- Team player with strong time management skills
- Experience with creating quality documentation
- Competent in using measuring equipment and basic hand tools
- Respectful, flexible, and capable of making decisions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Leadership skills, including the ability to delegate tasks and motivate others
Qualifications and Skills:
- In-depth understanding of medium to complex drawings and GD&T
- Basic operation and programming skills for CMM
- Proficient use of the Romer Arm
- Strong background in quality inspection, preferably with experience in a manufacturing environment
Health and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with all WHS policies as outlined in the HR Manual and Employment Policy guide
- Participate and contribute in all WHS Toolbox meetings
- Participate in department WHS, Fire and Evacuation and Emergency training
- Demonstrate a high degree of safety awareness
