Aerodynamics Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and performance-driven Aerodynamics Engineer to join our NASCAR Cup Series engineering team. This role is critical to the design, simulation, and optimization of aerodynamic components that directly impact on-track performance. The successful candidate will work closely with race engineers, simulation specialists, and fabrication teams to develop solutions that meet competitive and regulatory standards.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform aerodynamic analysis using CFD tools and wind tunnel testing to support race car development.
- Design and optimize aerodynamic surfaces including splitters, spoilers, underbody elements, and body panels within NASCAR regulations.
- Collaborate with vehicle dynamics and simulation teams to integrate aerodynamic data into performance models.
- Support full-scale and scale-model wind tunnel testing, including instrumentation setup and data interpretation.
- Analyze race data (telemetry, wind tunnel, CFD) to identify performance gains and validate design changes.
- Contribute to the development of aero maps and setup tools used by race engineers.
- Stay current with NASCAR rule changes and technical bulletins affecting aerodynamic design.
- Prepare technical documentation and present findings to engineering leadership and competition staff.
- Participate in trackside support and post-race analysis as needed.
- Other duties assigned by Manager.
Required Skills, Experience and Abilities
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in aerodynamic design and analysis, preferably in motorsports.
- Prior experience in NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula 1, or other professional motorsports series.
- Proficiency in CFD software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, STAR-CCM+) and CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks).
- Familiarity with NASCAR technical regulations and inspection processes.
- Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, vehicle dynamics, and race car performance metrics.
- Experience with wind tunnel testing and data acquisition systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Understanding of simulation environments such as DIL (Driver-in-the-Loop) or vehicle modeling platforms.
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data analysis and automation.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, competitive team environment.
