Race Mechanic
Hendrick Motorsports is currently seeking a highly qualified race mechanic to assist in the installation and repair of systems and components of the race car. This position will also perform trackside race responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including driveline, steering systems, brake and fuel systems, suspension, and other potentially troublesome areas.
- Assist with NASCAR inspection process.
- Responsible for making suspension and drivetrain changes as needed.
- Responsible for installing the engine, gear, and transmission.
- Examine all key parts, including belts, hoses, steering systems, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
- Examine vehicle components to determine the extent of damage or malfunctions.
- Repair, replace, and adjust brakes.
- Repair or replace parts such as gauges, gears, blowers, and bearings.
- Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Maintain cleanliness of work area.

Desired Education : High school diploma or equivalent
Desired Work Experience : 3-5 years of experience desired
Education/Experience: Thorough understanding of mechanical components and car systems. Must have own personal tools. Strong mechanical knowledge required. Basic fabrication skills required. Knowledge of dial calipers and basic measuring tools needed. Must be familiar with body and chassis repair. Welding ability is a plus. Skilled in installing decal wraps on the body.
Certificates and Licenses: Valid Driver’s License
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills are required.
Communication Skills: Will work in a team environment and must take direction in an active environment. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and company personnel.
Attendance Expectations: Ability to work a flexible schedule. Ability to travel as needed, up to 75%.
Physical Demands: Requires vision (near, distance, depth), sense of touch, and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – safety glasses, hearing protection. Constantly stands, walks, manually manipulates, reaches outward, lifts/carries up to 100 pounds, and pushes/pull up to 25 pounds. Frequently reaches above shoulder, climbs, crawls, squats or kneels, bends, and pushes/pulls up to 40 pounds. Occasionally sits, lifts/carries over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds.
Environment Demands: Works indoors and outdoors.
Verbal and Writing Ability: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations.
