Tire Modeling Engineer

Concord, NC, USA Full Time

Objective for this position is to develop and maintain accurate tire models to support Trackhouse Racing’s vehicle modeling and simulation efforts.

Duties, Expectations and Responsibilities

  • Develop tire fitting methodologies for offline simulation and the DiL (Driver in Loop) simulator. Develop toolsets to standardize and automate the process.
  • Utilize flat track and wheel force transducer data to ensure fit quality and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain standardized fit assessments for each tire model.
  • Maintain representative base fits for racing series track types (e.g., intermediate ovals, short track ovals, road courses, etc.)
  • Provide event specific tire recommendations for race teams (e.g., pressures, cambers, toe, etc.)
  • Work and interact with team manufacturer support on advanced tire modeling concepts and their implementation within Trackhouse engineering.
  • Working with all aspects of the team, actively support future car development.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the ever-changing landscape of professional sports
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, meet deadlines, and multi-task.
  • Strong communication skills in-person, via email with team members, fans, and partners
  • Keeping work area clean and organized at all times
  • Provide assistance to other team members on other duties as appropriate
    Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of the Pacejka tire model formulation.
  • Experience in the tire industry a bonus.
  • Experience in vehicle dynamics, vehicle modelling and simulation.
  • Basic coding capability, Trackhouse uses Python for engineering tool development.
  • Good interpersonal skills. Position requires interaction with race team personnel, drivers and manufacturer team support groups.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, able to break down complex problems into digestible, understandable actionable tasks.
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrable ability to deliver at the leading edge of our sport.
  • Understanding of motorsports vehicle simulation techniques, underpinned with a strong grasp of road vehicle aerodynamics and tire mechanics.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in pressure situations and maintain a customer-service mindset.
  • Experience in NASCAR industry, professional sports or high-level college athletics is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to selected test and/or race events.
