Hendrick Technical Solutions is currently seeking a E-Coatings Technician to join our team.

Summary: The E-Coatings Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining the electrocoating (e-coat) line to ensure proper coating of metal parts. This includes preparing parts, monitoring chemical levels, troubleshooting equipment, performing quality checks, and maintaining safety and environmental compliance. In addition to the e-coat line, responsibilities also include operation of the wastewater pretreatment system, maintenance, monitoring and replenishing of chemicals to maintain compliance with county and state regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Set up and operate e-coating system, including part loading/unloading, tank monitoring, and curing oven operation.
  • Inspect incoming parts for cleanliness, damage, or defects before coating.
  • Monitor and maintain e-coat line parameters (e.g., voltage, current, bath temperature, pH, solids).
  • Perform routine chemical testing and make adjustments to maintain bath chemistry within specification.
  • Ensure proper pre-treatment (cleaning, rinsing, zirconium application) of parts before coating.
  • Perform quality checks on coated parts for coverage, thickness, adhesion, and curing.
  • Record production and quality data in accordance with company procedures.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance and report equipment issues to maintenance.
  • Follow safety protocols and environmental regulations, including proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Monitor and maintain hybrid wastewater treatment package plant to remain within our county and state issued permit regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; 1+ year experience in an industrial painting or coatings environment preferred . Knowledge of electrocoating or similar finishing processes is a plus. Knowledge of wastewater treatment is preferred. Basic understanding of electrical and chemical processes used in e-coating. Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Understanding of basic chemistry.

Certificates and Licenses:

Fork Lift certification

Computer Skills:

Proficiency in programming software and basic Microsoft Office applications

Communication Skills:

Ability to work as a team player and communicate effectively with other departments and organizational team members.

Attendance Expectations:

The position requires regular and predictable attendance. Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed. This position is not remote and must work onsite.

Physical Demands:

Requires vision (near, distance, color, peripheral, depth), sense of touch, and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – safety glasses. Constantly manually manipulates, lifts/carries 10 pounds or less, and pushes/pulls 12 pounds or less. Frequently stands, walks, reaches outward, bends, lifts/carries up to 75 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds. Occasionally sits, reaches above shoulder, squats or kneels, lifts/carries over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds. Ability to distinguish between color variations to perform titrations.

Environment Demands:

Exposure to heat, noise, chemicals, and moving equipment. Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment. Comfortable working with chemicals and in a production environment.

Verbal and Writing Ability:

Must be able to read blue prints and production orders. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees. Ability to read technical documents, safety data sheets (SDS), and operating procedures.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Must be able to do basic shop math and measurements using calipers.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations.
